Taking Leadership to the next level

Dedicated to superior IT support

The LANtech leadership team shares a passion for information technology and a desire to help people and see businesses thrive.

Paul McQuinlan, Managing Director

Paul’s beginnings in IT were in the realm of avionics and navigation communications equipment for Civil Aviation.  He then moved on to the State Services Commission where he worked in the Computer Services Division supporting Government Networks.  In 1978 Paul took up a role in Datacom becoming the National Engineering Manager, and later founding and working in the Datacom Research and Development team.

Paul co-founded Modular Computer Systems with Ivan Steinmetz in 1986, heading the engineering section for many years followed by a move into Sales Management.  Paul moved into the role of Managing Director when Ivan semi-retired in 2010.  He has been instrumental in introducing the Managed Services support model and driving innovation within LANtech.  Paul works very closely with LANtech’s Spark Partners and in the on-going development of our professional services team

Ivan Steinmetz, Director / CFO

Ivan entered the Computer Industry in 1961 as a computer engineer for International Computers Ltd with site responsibility for 5 major installations in Wellington; Ministry of Defence, Wellington Computer Centre, Computer Bureau Ltd, New Zealand Motor Corporation and the Government Computer Centre.  He then joined the State Services Commission, Computer Services Division, to establish a Technical Services Centre involved in evaluation and recommendation of comms equipment used by IRD, DSW and the Wanganui Law Enforcement Networks.

Following this Ivan joined Computer Bureau Ltd in 1977 and was a founding member and Director of Datacom Equipment Ltd.  The success of this organisation was such that the Holding Company, CBL, adopted its name as the Datacom Group of Companies.  Ivan went on to found Modular Computer Systems with Paul McQuinlan in 1986 to fill a growing requirement for personal computers, with parts sourced from Asia assembled and implemented in Wellington.   A name change to LANtech Network Specialists came later to better reflect the company’s focus.  Ivan is in semi-retirement and continues in the role of CFO.

Rex Bullard, Director

After teaching for approximately 20 years Rex became involved in early PC’s, examining ways to use them in teaching and learning and later in administration functions for schools. He wrote the first accounting package for schools which was used for many years throughout NZ.

In 1990 Rex joined LANtech in a Sales & Support role and had the opportunity to become a partner shortly thereafter. Rex’s primary role in the company has been in Sales where he has worked with a large number of clients over the years helping them to explore options to enhance their business processes and to grow.

Pieter de Villiers, Sales Manager
Pieter has been in IT for almost 40 years and had his initial sales training at IBM before emigrating from South Africa to New Zealand in 2001. His mantra has always been – ‘my next sale is only as good as my previously delivery’ – meaning that not only does he ensure that LANtech understands the customer’s business and requirements by listening and recommending the right technical solutions but also staying with implementation until its successful conclusion. Pieter believes that every sales person should live by these sales ‘habits’ as he calls it.

Ben Bleakley, Support Manager

Initially coming on board as a Senior Engineer/Team Leader he is now the Support Manager to over 26 engineers.  He looks after the teams based in Wellington, Wairarapa and Vietnam.
