1st Quarter 2009 report

A Comment from our Managing Director, Paul McQuinlan

paulm.jpgOver half-way through 2009 already.  This time 40 years ago we saw Apollo-11 touch down on the southern Sea of Tranquility and heard the infamous words "Huston, the Eagle has landed".   Yet the computing power in Apollo-11 was significantly less (about 2,500 less powerful in fact), than that of the Toshiba notebook that I'm writing this on.

Technology has progressed almost as dramatically as has our reliance on that technology.  Most businesses today could not function without it's IT systems.   The challenge for any IT service delivery company is understanding this need and meeting, indeed exceeding the expectations of it's clients.

The traditional approaches to IT service, sitting back, waiting for the call from a customer with a problem, is no longer adequate.  A whole new approach is needed and with it a whole new approach to contracted services.  It's about commitment to ensuring that the customer is able to obtain the best from their IT system investment.   If a customer's IT system fails then effectively we have failed.  The challenge is in the prevention of failure through proactive management of the customer's IT systems.

LANtech has made significant investment in software management and monitoring tools to ensure it is well equipped to meet this challenge.  But it doesn't end there, the right tools is just the beginning.  Having the right people, training and the systems in-place is the challenge we are working through in 2009.  We have done a lot of work in developing our people and developing new systems, in order to continuously improve, but a lot more work is needed.

Throughout 2009 LANtech will be adopting a number of new systems designed to improve our service delivery.  We will also be measuring how well those new systems are working through various methods of feedback from you our customers.  Your input in this is essential and very much appreciated.

Certainly our greatest asset is our people and we are fortunate to have a team of excellent individuals all of whom are passionate about our goal of delivering service excellence.
